LG Launches Optimus Sol Android Phone

Apple may have targeted the direct threat to iPhone and the iPad, but Android partners are unstoppable force. Now, LG has announced the launch of Optimus Sol, running on the Android 2.3 Gingerbread, the most powerful mobile operating system.

Optimus Sol offers 9.8mm slimness with a brilliant 3.8-inch "Ultra AMOLED" display. With a depth of only 9.8mm, the LG Optimus Sol boasts a sophisticated design, solid feel and enhanced user experience. It runs on a 1GHz CPU, and offer box-free Internet experience with Flash 10.1.

It has a a 3.8-inch WVGA Ultra AMOLED display with a superior color gamut. The new and improved Ultra AMOLED display has a two-fold advanced reflection rate compared to standard AMOLED displays, and reduces image quality degradation.

The device uses an enhanced idle-based power management system that boosts battery life by 20 to 30 percent. With the Dark UI selected, the Optimus Sol utilizes less white light in order to extend the battery life performance. The phone includes a 5.0MP camera for fast auto-shuttering, auto-focusing and shot-to-shot. Users can also take full advantage of multimedia connectivity via onscreen links to DLNA and Wi-Fi Direct.

This new handset will be introduced in Europe beginning mid-September, followed by roll-outs in Central and South America. The Optimus Sol will be available in black, titan and white, availability depending on the region.

LG Optimus 2X

A dual-core Tegra 2 processor, Android 2.2 and 1080p video recording from an eight-megapixel camera should all combine to make the LG Optimus 2X a potential powerhouse, especially for video.
But how does this 4-inch WVGA-screened monolith really perform, and can it invalidate all that's come before? Our early review with the pre-release software might still have some questions unanswered, but early signs show this dual-core wonder might lack the grunt we were all hoping for.

LG Optimus Black

The LG Optimus Black has some great things going for it – a sleek, lightweight chassis and lush 4-inch NOVA display in all its colourful glory. It might not have much more than that but it's a slick, capable handset that does well in the core smartphone media categories.
If you like gimmicks, you'll probably love the Gesture UI, though we thought many of the options – such as tapping to skip music tracks – were a little pointless when you really got down to it.
Overall though, and despite running Android 2.2 (with an upgrade promised at some point), we'd say the LG Optimus Black's worth the money if you're looking for an efficient, easy to use device that's easy on the eye and light on the pocket coming in at a very palatable £20-£25 per month.
